From AFSE President Nas Afi:

Dear AFSE Membership and Colleagues,
I hope this communication finds you well, safe, and healthy.

As you know, this week the AFSE Bargaining Team phased into the beginning of more Traditional Bargaining. That is, the parties are beginning to exchange proposals, with the rationale for them. The team has represented you well at each step of the negotiations process! Each member of the team has entered into the 2017 round of negotiations being highly prepared, professional, and passionate and with deep commitment to negotiate the Collective Bargaining Agreement you deserve.

Collectively, the team works tirelessly together toward one goal and with the totality of our membership in mind and at heart. The diverse talent, ideas, experience, and skills on the team are serving us well. The Steering Committee, now comprised of the Organizing and Communications Co-chairs, along with the Research Chair have also been working as one on our behalf to assist and support the Bargaining Team in many different ways to deliver the best CBA possible. And, AFSE has dedicated and hardworking Stewards and Officers who round out the comprehensive way in which AFSE has approached this bargaining and brings advocacy for the professional work and union issues for all its members all year round.

Of course, you the members, are the critical players in these and any negotiations and it is the members being solid, energetic, engaged, and informed who can really deliver a 'good' Collective Bargaining Agreement for the unit. We know this from our work in the field every day, with the local and state affiliates with whom we work. AFSE is 'our' local, so to speak, and we can bring the same effective work in-house as we do with those we serve in the field for success. We empower and equip ourselves...... to be the best staff there is; the staff working across this country for public education and for the men and women who teach and support students at every level; the staff who make a difference for students and their communities now and for the future.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts, ideas, and involvement, each and every one of you! Please stay in touch, have your voice heard, and hold your head high. Our camaraderie and engagement is key! Stay strong! See you on the call this evening.

I am proud and honored to serve as your president!

In Solidarity.....
